Michael Hickey
He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a commission in the U.S. Navy in 1980. After sailing on oil tankers as an engineer with Exxon, he spent two years as a missionary on the MV Doulos, an evangelistic missions ship. And in 1983, he joined the pastoral staff at Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle, where he served for three years before coming to the Stony Brook School in 1986.
Currently, Hickey teaches AP Biology and physics. Over the years, he has also tutored hundreds of students individually in preparation for the SAT and has taught SAT preparation courses for the school as well. Hickey’s students regularly do very well on this exam, and the average increase in test score has been a significant leap of 240 points per student.
