James Griffin

As a scriptwriter with over 20 years of experience, James Griffin has writing credits for dozens of television shows. He joined the TVNZ Drama Department in 1985, and his first writing credits were on a drama series called Gloss. Since then, Griffin has worked on shows as notable as More Issues, That Comedy Show, Citylife (for which he was also associate producer), Jackson’s Wharf, Street Legal, and Being Eve. Griffin also wrote the one-off comedy Double Booking, which won him the award for Best Comedy Script at the 1999 NZ Film and TV Awards.

Serial Killers, a television series based on Griffin’s award-winning play, screened on TV One in 2005 to glowing reviews. The play itself has been performed by major New Zealand theater companies and landed Griffin the 2000 Chapman Tripp Award for Best New Writer.

Since 2007, Griffin has been head writer at South Pacific Pictures. Before that, he was head of development there, overseeing the initial script development of such projects as Maddigan’s Quest, Interrogation, and We’re Here to Help. He also writes a weekly satirical column in the weekend edition of the New Zealand Herald.
